Public Space Surveillance (Level 2) within the Private Security Industry​

Who is this qualification for?

This regulated qualification is ideal for anyone wishing to work as a CCTV operative as it provides them with the necessary skills and knowledge to apply for an SIA licence in this field. It has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Subjects covered include roles and responsibilities of CCTV operators, codes of practice, operational procedures and guidelines, CCTV equipment and operation and surveillance techniques.

How long will it take?

4 days (approximately 32 hours of learning) or 3 days if flexible distance learning is undertaken.

These include the main characteristics of the Private Security Industry:

  • The differences between civil and criminal law
  • The roles and responsibilities of each member of the CCTV team
  • The importance of accurate record-keeping
  • Equipment fault reporting procedures, and actions to take if a suspicious object is found in the CCTV control room

Unit 1 – Working within the Private Security Industry
Assessment: 40-question multiple-choice examination

Unit 2 – Working as a CCTV Operator
Assessment: 40-question multiple-choice examination

Unit 3 – Practical Operation of CCTV Equipment
Assessment: Ongoing practical assessment throughout the course by the tutor
